It’s National Apprenticeship Week so let’s meet our JPS apprentice, Shay Bailey, who works with our civils team.
Shay Bailey is 19 and is in his second year or a two year BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering with Coleg Cambria.
He spends 1 day a week in college and the other 4 days working at the JPS office. College involves learning and assignments with exams at the end of each year, as well as practical exams in surveying subjects.
Shay chose this route because he hopes the mix of classroom-based learning, qualifications and on the job training in a real work environment will help him to progress quicker. Once he completes his apprenticeship, Shay plans to study for a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering with the ultimate goal of becoming a chartered civil engineer.
He is making great progress in both his studies and his practical work, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a growing understanding of the field. While still learning, Shay is developing the skills necessary to succeed in the industry. With continued experience, he is on a clear path to achieving his goals and making valuable contributions to the profession.
