Project Info

Meole Brace Teaching Hub, Shrewsbury
Circa £4m New Build

JPS assisted Read Construction with the delivery of this Zero Carbon in Operation teaching hub at Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury. JPS provided full civil and structural design services as well as temporary works input for this £4m development.

The project set out to create a new ‘state of the art’ teaching hub at Meole Brace School as part of Shropshire Council’s ambition to create sustainable education provision with future school expansions. The project was one of the first to drive the change towards more sustainable projects to meet the council’s 2030 carbon targets.

The new two-storey building forms the language teaching ‘hub’ for Meole Brace School and also includes an external recreation area. Five classrooms were provided along with a small group meeting room, a staff room, toilets and storage.

The scheme which incorporated SUDS drainage features and renewables in the form of PV panels went on to successfully achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and Passivhaus Accreditation upon completion.
