Project Info

Working along side Willmott Dixon Construction and AEW Architects, JPS provided civil & structural design for “Workspace”, the conversion of  2 floors of the Spindles Shopping Mall into new office space for Oldham Council. The project also involved the demolition of the previous TJ Hughes building to allow the construction of a new four storey events space and archives. Finally, a full internal renovation of the adjacent Mall space was undertaken to allow the Tommy Field Market to be rehomed in the centre of the town.

The structural works involved the design of internal supporting steelwork to allow the removal of existing slabs as well as structural works to  infill previous structural voids. We designed new curtain walling supports to “Workspace” along with the design of retaining structures, piled foundations and a four storey steel concrete composite frame to the Market and Events project.

During the design phase, full 3D coordination and clash detection was carried out to ensure seamless interaction between disciplines.
