Project Info
JPS provided full structural and civil design services for the restoration works at the historic Wrexham General and Butcher’s markets.
We worked closely with the lead architect, the conservation architect and the contractor to sensitively restore the structure and historical building fabric and implement repair and strengthening works as required for the alterations and change in loading.
Architects Lawray’s design to revitalise the markets is a response to the vision outlined in Wrexham’s Townscape Heritage Scheme. The Grade II listed General and Butcher’s markets lie at the heart of the Wrexham Town Centre Conservation Area. Both markets contribute a significant amount of character and heritage value to Wrexham’s Town Centre, providing links to the historical development of Wrexham through trade and industry, according to the architects.
The regenerated markets aim to attract a wider variety of traders and improve accessibility and services. Renovating and modernising the markets will provide a vibrant, diverse, and convenient place to shop and eat, contributing to Wrexham’s vision to be an attractive, distinctive, and accessible 21st-century town.
