Ysgol Ein Harglwyddes, Bangor
Circa £3.6m New Build

JPS has provided the full structural and civil design for a new build, replacement primary school in Bangor.

JPS carried out detailed ground investigation works to inform the complex foundations and retaining wall structures required for this steeply sloping and constrained site. The superstructure was designed as a steel frame with light-gauge steel infill panels to achieve the stringent low embodied carbon targets set by WAG.

The scheme which includes additional parking space, outdoor learning spaces and sports facilities requires careful consideration of the site topology to minimise material use and is on target to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.

Located on the site of the former Ysgol Glanadda, the new school building has been designed to respect the legacy of the site, replicating the form and scale of the original 1900’s school with a modern interpretation to meet 21st Century School requirements. The 150 place single storey primary school building also provides a 20 place nursery and 30 place Cylch Meithrin and allows Ysgol Ein Harglwyddes to relocate from their current location further down the road to this new purpose built, energy efficient school designed to meet Welsh Government’s Net Zero operational carbon requirements.

Work is due to commence on site in 2024.
