A busy year at Coleg Cambria!

2024 looks set to be a busy year for Coleg Cambria as two of their latest new buildings are set to be completed. JPS is currently appointed as the Civil and Structural Engineers for both the Healthcare and Therapies Centre of Excellence at Yale , Wrexham, and the Farming Futures Sustainability hub in LLysfasi. Both projects have been designed with TACP Architects.

The state-of-the-art £14m Healthcare facility in Yale will include a fully furnished industry-standard commercial spa and juice bar. The aim is to give learners the opportunity to work and train alongside industry professionals as well as simulated health wards and Virtual Reality environments as shown in this video fly through.

Meanwhile, over in Llysfasi, the £8 million Farming Futures Sustainability Hub will include soil laboratories, a demonstration theatre and cafe. Learning zones will fully support learners and the wider agricultural community as they focus on sustainable farming for the future. Here is a link to a video fly-through of the planned project.

At the Yale site, JPS worked in partnership with Wynne Construction on this constrained city center site which involved demolishing two multistorey buildings to make way for the new three storey learning hub. Excavation of the site was also needed to house the basement beauty workshop areas.

At Llysfasi, JPS worked alongside a timber frame supplier to design the building as a hybrid steel and timber structure, supported off traditional foundations and a suspended slab. The JPS civils team developed the drainage strategy to maximise the use of sustainable urban drainage solutions. This will reduce the strain on the existing campus drainage network. Work on site is progressing quickly with Read Construction and is due for completion in Summer 2024.

Both schemes are aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating as they are designed and built using sustainable methods and materials and are exemplars of low carbon buildings.
